Nickelodeon SpongeBob SquarePants 10 year anniversary!

Nickelodeon plans to make 'Happy Squared' to honor SpongeBob SquarePants’ 10th anniversary this 2009. Spongebob launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants with 70 million viewers monthly, and has been the number-one animated program with Kids 2-11 for more than seven consecutive years. SpongeBob SquarePants will make its dry-land debut in Park City, Utah, during the 2009 Film Festival with the first-ever SpongeBob live cast performance, on Jan. 18. along with that Nickelodeon will show its first-ever SpongeBob documentary featuring SpongeBob and The Big Green Help pro-social campaign special TV events. Konami loses battle with Upper Deck over Yu-Gi-Oh! playing cards

A Court decision in California and Europe denied Konami’s efforts to stop The Upper Deck Co. from continuing to distribute Japanese manga Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Upper Deck will continue to distribute market and sell Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG products in territories outside of Asia. Upper Deck has been producing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards for the last 8 years. Konami Digital Entertainment announced it was taking back all operational and business aspects of Upper Deck’s 8-year-old trading card game immediately. via playthings

University Games makes game based on PBS show "Super Why"

University Games has new toys including some based on the PBS kids' series "Super Why!" an ABC reading skills board game coming out in 2009. Fox teams up with SSD to make live-action TV series "City Hunter" created by: Tsukasa Hojo

Fox has signed an agreement with Korean production company SSD to produce and distribute a live-action TV series Created by Tsukasa Hojo. “City Hunter” manga originally appeared in “Shonen Jump". Fox TV Studios and SSD will joint-produce 13 episodes to be distributed worldwide. Korean actor Chung Woo-sung will star in the series (marking the first Asian actor to headline a U.S. TV drama)and other Hollywood stars will also be joining the filming that will take place in Tokyo and Seoul starting next year. via: ICV2.com

Disney XD new series Kid Knevel

Walt Disney Animation has begun production on Kid Knievel, created by Sandro Corsaro is a new 2D animated series set to debut in fall 2009 on Disney XD channel. Kid Knievel is about a 12-year-old boy Francis Little, a boy who overcomes incredible obstacles in his quest to become famous. Inspired by the will and determination of daredevil Robbie Knievel who wants to be the world's greatest daredevil. To build to promote the new series, Disney XD.com (currently the Toon Disney channel) will offer 5, 55-second original animated shorts. The Channel is more boy driven then girl but there are girl inclusive to look forward. Animation producer Chris Savino (Johnny Test, The Powerpuff Girls)serves as exec producer and director on the series. The voice cast also includes Chris Edgerly (Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law) as Francis Little. Disney XD is a re-branding of Toon Disney. The basic cable channel will debut in February with a multi-platform setup that will showcase a mix of live-action and animated programming for kids 6-14, especially boys into discovery, sports, adventure and humor. Nickelodeon will cover Barack Obama's inauguration in Washington DC on January 20, 2009. Hosted by young star reporters Lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins) and Lil' JJ who covered the political conventions this past summer. This will be a first in Nickelodeon's history to cover a presidential inauguration. Keanu Reeves Live-action film Cowboy-Bebop set for 2011

Keanu Reeves did a brief update for MTV on his live-action project Cowboy Bebop. This project has been a passion of Keanu for years and now is finally in production for 2011. Keanu has been a fan of anime since his youth, this new live-action film will follow the sci-fi anime story line of Cowboy Bebop. If your not fimaliar with the anime Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese animated television series now featured on Adult Swim @4:30am. Directed by Shinichirō Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto. Consisting of 26 episodes, the series follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship "the Bebop" in the year 2071. Sony Animation partners with Gotham Group

Sony Pictures Animation has signed a first-look production deal with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein's the Gotham Group. Gotham Group is a leading management firm for toon and kids content creators, and have produced films as "The Spiderwick Chronicles. Gotham represents some of the top animation directors and writers as well as a broad range publishing houses and comicbook companies including Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, Harper Collins Children's Books (U.S. & U.K.), Houghton Mifflin/Harcourt and Dark Horse Entertainment. Gotham is currently in production on "Dead Space," an animated feature for Starz channel and the 3-D CGI film "Quantum Quest," the first film ever initiated by NASA/JPL. The company also recently linked with the Chungnan Techno Park, Chungam province of South Korea and several South Korean corporations in a pubic-private partnership to form an animation fund totaling more than $300 million for the purpose of financing, producing and distributing six to eight animated and live-action/animated hybrid feature films.

Nickelodeon gets kids to be aware of environmental issues with the launch of "The Big Green Help Global Challenge" a multiplayer made for kids with real-world environmental change in mind. Kids are asked to virtually pledge volunteer hours so that they can translate into actionable steps in their homes, communities and schools. Kids can choose from four Nicktoon characters SpongeBob SquarePants, Back at the Barnyard's Otis, The Fairly OddParent's Timmy Turner and Avatar's Aang then partner with up to three other players in a face-off against CO2-spewing monsters.
